Action Wellness – Philadelphia Linkage Program: Linkage from Behind the Walls

With Re-Entry Community Linkages (Re-LINK), the expanded Philadelphia Linkage Program will target minority and other vulnerable justice-involved individuals ages 18-26. These individuals will be at high risk for experiencing health disparities, chronic illness, mental health challenges, substance use histories, poverty, homelessness, low self-sufficiency, and/or intellectual disability. This presentation provided an overview of the Philadelphia Linkage Program, its history as well as its current interventions, and their components.

Eastern State Penitentiary – Sharing Lived Experience with Incarceration to Inspire Empathy

Last year Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site launched a groundbreaking tour program that hired formerly incarcerated people as paid tour staff, expanding how we involve the voices and perspectives of formerly incarcerated people in the interpretation of the historic site. The project goals are to foster empathy, humanize mass incarceration, move visitors towards action around these issues, and provide job opportunities for disenfranchised people.

Mural Arts Philadelphia – Using Art to Restore Spaces and Lives

This local organization presented a visual tour of the murals and work done by the Guild program, composed of young people 18-24 on probation (YVRP) and reentry workers from the Philadelphia Prisons. Also the program at SCI Graterford was discussed along with the Fathers and Children Together program. Using art as the catalyst, the Mural Arts program provided on the job paid training to those involved in the criminal justice system.

Philabundance Community Kitchen – Job Training Program for Low to No Income Adults

Presentation discussed who the organization serves, recruits, the "transformation" approach and all things related. Philabundance is looking for students for the next class.

Philadelphia Unemployment Project – Job Transportation Justice and Services for the Reentry Community

Poor reverse commuting options in the Philadelphia region deprive inner city residents of access to jobs that are more plentiful and better paying in the Philadelphia suburbs. In many poor neighborhoods 50% of residents are transit dependent (no private vehicle). In 1970, about half of all of the region's jobs were based in Philadelphia. By 2013, only about one quarter were. The Philadelphia Unemployment Project provides the following services ; Job search, foreclosure prevention, reverse commute transportation, help with unemployment compensation and healthcare navigation.

Once placed, they focus on retention and stick with their clients for the long-term.
