Male Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence: a Professional Training

Join the staff of our Blingual Domestic Violence Program for a day focused on the needs, challenges, and barriers faced by male survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV). While remaining grounded in the reality that women experience abuse more often than men, we will work to build understanding, knowledge, and skills in working with men whose experience of abuse often leaves them trapped in stigma and silence.

Participants will:

  • Learn about the common dynamics of IPV and how they can be shaped by gender

  • Practice assessing male-identifying clients to identify survivors and abusive partners

  • Develop agency appropriate language and skills to screen male clients for IPV

  • Adapt empowerment counseling techniques for male clients

  • Explore the ways male power, privilege, and entitlement can complicate work with male survivors

Location information: The training will be at Lutheran Settlement House. There is limited parking available in a small lot behind our building. The 25 bus drops off directly outside our door, and the Girard stop on the El is a short walk away.

Accessibility: please note that our training space is down a short flight of steps. If this impacts your ability to attend please contact us and we will arrange an alternate location.
