Reparations for Incarceration Community Events

September 7, 2018

Mary DeWitt and Paulette Carrington will collaborate with Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral in Reparations for Incarceration, an art exhibition and community event series on mass incarceration.

The exhibition will be on view September 4-28, 2018, with special events on September 20, 23, and 25.

Mary creates portraits of women sentenced to life in prison, often integrating their narratives into her work. Paulette, who is the second woman released in Pennsylvania sentenced to life without parole as a juvenile, has known and lived with these women for decades.

Paulette, whose portrait is also on view, will talk about the effects of growing up in prison at a series of community events featuring prominent Philadelphia community leaders, educators, and prison reform activists.

Reparations for Incarceration will provide an opportunity for the public to deepen their awareness of the serious crisis facing not just these women portrayed, but the larger community and nation.
