Temple University Criminal Justice Department Looking to Hire Part Time Research Assistant

The Department of Criminal Justice at Temple is seeking to hire a part-time research assistant to provide research support for an innovative violence reduction strategy taking place in Philadelphia. 

 

The primary goal of the project is to support the data collection and reporting efforts of a collaborative, government-run strategy to reduce violent crime and support the reintegration individuals leaving state prison. 

 

The Research Assistant (RA) will work closely with the faculty member and collaborators from the partnering government agencies to design and support a data collection and reporting strategy that will allow for a rigorous evaluation of the program with duties including, but not limited to: supporting data development and data collection from partner agencies, support the development, testing and administration of collection instruments, clean and analyze data using statistical software, support the recruitment and contenting of participants, conduct and transcribe qualitative participant interviews, assist with the preparation of outfacing reports, data requests and presentations, attend program meetings and support meeting developments.  Position will require some travel within Philadelphia.

 

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education & Experience:

BA/BS in social sciences, criminal justice, sociology, social work, or related field. Experience through internships or past research or program projects partnering with government agencies.

Some data collection and analysis experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  

 

Required Skills & Abilities:

*Excellent written and oral communication skills.

*Strong analytical, interpersonal, record-keeping, organizational, and time management skills.

*Some knowledge of primary and secondary data collection techniques.

*Comfortable using Excel and PowerPoint.

*Data visualization skills are not required but are a plus. *Knowledge of basic descriptive and inferential statistics.

*Readiness to solve problems, learn new skills, volunteer for unassigned work, and proactively seek assistance when needed.

*Conscientious, reliable, and flexible

*Transportation Access- Must be willing to travel to North Philadelphia at least twice a week

*Communication- Excellent oral communication skills

*Cross-cultural competencies- Skills in working across cultures

*Cooperation- Ability to work independently as well as with various teams of people

 

Preferred:

*Experience working with underserved communities  

 

This is a grant funded position limited to 2 years.
