This summer, AFJ is thrilled to offer a free healing retreat for formerly incarcerated people in conjunction with the Blue Mountain Center in the Adirondacks. Space is limited, so if you are interested in attending, please fill out this application.
The Blue Mountain Center is a sprawling estate located in the heart of the Adirondacks, on the largest state park in the continental U.S. It is a place where writers, artists and activists gather to reflect, relax, and re-energize. AFJ envisions that the participants in this retreat will be people who have been incarcerated; some of whom recently came home and others who have been home for awhile. The retreat facilitators understand the journey people are on as they return home and are equipped to moderate discussions about it.
Thus it will be therapeutic for both the people who have “been out a while” and the “newly released.” It will be therapeutic in the sense of healing, networking, building coping skills, plus quiet time, reading time, free time, in addition to: canoeing, kayaking, nature trail hiking and the like. The healing retreat will include yoga, meditation, creative artistic activities and a writing workshop. This retreat offers opportunities to reflect, relax, re-energize, and for AFJ it also offers an opportunity to welcome you home. (All expenses: lodging, food and transportation will be covered by AFJ)
