University City District’s West Philadelphia Skills Initiative (WPSI) and PIDC’s Navy Yard Workforce Development Initiatives (NYWDI) are launching their first collaborative professional development program to train West and South Philadelphia residents for permanent, full-time, quality-wage careers. Four Seasons Total Landscaping is the first employer partner at the Navy Yard to participate in the program and it will offer opportunities for graduates to interview for laborer positions starting at $14/hour.
Program Basics
PIDC’s Navy Yard Workforce Development Initiatives training programs are designed for individuals who have been disconnected from the workforce or who have limited professional experience to strengthen the skills and abilities that employers need!
Program participants are expected to participate in all aspects of the program including classroom training and technical coursework. The goal of each program is to connect participants to the tools and supports needed to build a meaningful career.

Full Training Schedule for Grounds Maintenance Laborer Program:
Participants must commit to the full training schedule posted and must be willing to travel to the in-person locations. Face coverings/masks are required for in-person trainings and will be provided.
Virtual:
Monday 2/22, Tuesday 2/23, Wednesday 2/24, Friday 2/26, Monday 3/1, Friday 3/5, Monday 3/8, Tuesday 3/9, Wednesday 3/10, Friday 3/12: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Friday 3/12: Program Closing Session, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
In-Person:
Thursday 2/25: in-person at Four Seasons Total Landscaping, 7:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Tuesday 3/2 & Wednesday 3/3: in-person at the Navy Yard, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Thursday 3/4: in-person at the Navy Yard, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Thursday 3/11: in-person interviews at the Navy Yard, time will be scheduled soon
Are You Eligibile for This Program?
Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalency
Commit to the full training schedule
Have a strong desire to attain and retain full-time, permanent employment
Be capable of completing physically strenuous labor for long hours, occasionally in extreme heat or cold
Pass a pre-employment drug screen
