Liberation Foundation Spotlights PRC Member Doreen Cuffie

Meet Doreen! Doreen leads mentorship sessions at SCI Coal Township as a Project HOPE facilitator, with the goal of connecting participants with resources as they prepare to come home. A Pennsylvania native, Doreen is especially involved in the community outside of Project HOPE and is involved in reentry advocacy across Philadelphia.

“I got out and …I just knew I needed to help people,” says Doreen, who came home in early 2020. After building her leadership skills and becoming a mentor to other women during her incarceration, Doreen was excited to use her experience to help other individuals returning home. As a member of the Women’s Guild, a part of the Mural Arts Philadelphia Restorative Justice Program, Doreen helps facilitate open forum talks for justice-impacted women. She also joined Broad Street Ministry as a Civic Engagement Associate to engage community members and register voters.

Her ties in the community remain strong. Even now, Doreen maintains a network of friends, mentors, and mentees she met during her incarceration. “It’s just so powerful”, she says.
