
Position Overview
The SNAP Outreach & Hotline Counselor is a member of the Outreach team as well as the SNAP Hotline team. In this role they will conduct outreach to increase SNAP enrollment across the region and help thousands navigate the SNAP application process. This is a full time, exempt position reporting primarily to the Community Educator, but working closely with the SNAP Hotline Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Community Outreach
Support Community Outreach efforts to provide SNAP outreach, training, and program expertise.
Work closely with the Community Educator to connect individuals and partner organizations with numerous local anti-hunger resources when SNAP is not an option.
Primarily conduct outreach to immigrant communities through direct outreach and community partnerships. There is the possibility in the future to expand outreach to groups such as the LGBTQ community, seniors, youth, and families with children to name a few.
Lead, present, or participate in community events to reach those who are food insecure.
Help develop bi-lingual, literacy-appropriate outreach materials, monitor their distribution, and the response to materials.
Communicate with community partners to regularly assess further need and development of additional materials.
Provide assistance for clients using technology such as the My COMPASS PA mobile app.
SNAP Hotline
Prescreen individuals who call the Coalition’s SNAP Hotline using electronic screening materials to determine eligibility and possible benefit amount for SNAP benefits.
Complete online SNAP applications and renewals for eligible clients over the phone. When appropriate, assist clients with uploading documents into online system.
Clearly communicate information to clients regarding the SNAP application and other anti-hunger programs.
Refer clients to other resources such as food pantries, soup kitchens, and community refrigerators as needed.
Record all information accurately in Salesforce.
Assist with Coalition events as needed such as the Race Against Hunger and Night to Fight Hunger.
Attend staff meetings, retreats, and trainings.
Assist with other tasks as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Basic knowledge of SNAP.
Excellent customer service, verbal communication, and phone etiquette.
Strong computer skills with Salesforce experience preferred, ability to adapt to changing technology such as the COMPASS app.
Strong public speaker.
Strong relationship building skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of people including race, ethnicity, socio-economic, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, and religion.
Proactive attitude, a self-starter who is able to work independently and as a team player.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize work within a complex team.
Some evening and weekend hours required.
Ability to speak, read, and write in both languages.

Compensation
The Coalition provides a salary of $41,000, health, vision, and dental insurance, a matching retirement account after six months, Flexible Spending Account, 8 paid holidays plus the office is closed between Christmas and New Year’s, and unlimited Paid Time Off after the first 90 days.
